South Asian University (SAU) invites applications for its full-time PhD programmes in the following disciplines:
- Biotechnology
- Computer Science
- Economics
- International Relations
- Legal Studies
- Mathematics
- Sociology
South Asian University PhD 2025 Admission Date & Teaching Requirement
- Mode of Admission:
- Direct Mode: Applications accepted throughout the year for eligible candidates.
- Entrance Test: Admissions through this mode are conducted once a year (January/February intake).
- Tenure: Five years, including two semesters of compulsory pre-PhD coursework.
- Teaching Requirements:
- Coursework: 16 credits, including seminars and term papers.
- Additional faculty and department-specific requirements.
SAU PhD Eligibility :
General Requirements:
- Educational Background:
- 12 years of schooling + Bachelor’s degree + Master’s degree from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 50% marks (Social Sciences and Law); 55% marks (Science disciplines).
- Integrated Bachelor-Master or 4-year Bachelor’s degree candidates are also eligible.
Eligibility for Each Domain:
- Biotechnology:
MSc/MVSC/M.Tech/M.Pharm or MD/MS with 55% marks. - Computer Science:
MSc/MTech/MCA with 55% marks. - Economics:
MA/MSc in Economics or related fields with 50% marks. - International Relations:
Master’s degree in International Relations or related disciplines with 50% marks. - Legal Studies:
LLB + LLM with a minimum of 50% marks (60% for candidates with a one-year LLM). - Mathematics:
Master’s degree in Mathematics or related fields with 55% marks. - Sociology:
Master’s degree in Sociology or related disciplines with 50% marks.
SAU PhD Admission Process
Through Direct Mode:
- Eligibility:
- Candidates with national fellowships or government funding.
- Candidates employed and on leave for coursework duration.
- Shortlisting based on CV, SOP, research proposal, and recommendations.
- No financial support or stipend is provided under this mode.
Through Entrance Test:
- Entrance Test followed by an interview.
- Candidates must score a minimum of 50% in both the test and interview.
- Benefits:
- Tuition fee waiver.
- Hostel accommodation (if applicable).
- University stipend: INR 25,000/month for up to 5 years.

Additional Important Information
- Residency Requirement: Minimum until coursework completion.
- Full-Time Commitment: Students are not permitted to work during the residency period.
- No Repeat Tests: Improvement of grades in coursework is not allowed.
