The University of Calicut invites applications for admission to its Ph.D. Programme for 2024 in both full-time and part-time modes. Admissions are open for candidates eligible for the entrance examination and those exempted as per regulations. Candidates are advised to review the Calicut University Research Regulations 2023 and verify the vacancy positions on the official website before proceeding with the application process.
Eligibility Criteria
General Eligibility
- Educational Qualification:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) from a recognized university.
- A relaxation of 5% marks is provided for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS, Differently-Abled, and other categories as per UGC guidelines.
- Additional Criteria:
- Candidates with M.Phil. (completed before 2023) are also eligible, provided they meet the minimum marks requirement.
- Foreign qualifications must be accredited by the appropriate agency in the respective country.
Part-Time Ph.D. Eligibility
- Regularly employed candidates (teachers, researchers, librarians, etc.) in recognized institutions or organizations.
- Indian and foreign scientists or professionals working in R&D organizations, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
- Project fellows and professionals employed in scientific institutions or industries with relevant qualifications.
Admission Process
1. Entrance Test
- Candidates will undergo an entrance test conducted by the University.
- Weightage:
- 70% for the entrance test.
- 30% for the interview/viva-voce.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- General category: 50%
- SC/ST: 40%
- SEBC/Differently-Abled: 45%
2. Entrance Test Exemption
Candidates exempted from the entrance test include:
- Holders of UGC-JRF, CSIR-JRF, NET (2024 onwards).
- Full-time teachers in recognized institutions.
- Scientists with five years of research experience.
- Foreign nationals meeting eligibility requirements.
3. Selection Criteria
- Candidates with JRF qualification: Admission based solely on an interview.
- Candidates without JRF: Admission based on combined merit of entrance test and interview.
Application Procedure
- Registration Steps:
- Create a CAP ID by registering at admission.uoc.ac.in using a valid mobile number.
- Complete the application form and pay the registration fee.
- Application Fee:
- General Category: ₹830/-
- SC/ST Category: ₹310/-
- Submission:
- Applications must be submitted online by 03 February 2025 (without fine) or by 10 February 2025 (with fine).
- Candidates must retain a printed copy of the application for future reference.
