Banaras Hindu University (BHU) invites applications for admission to its Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Vidyāvāridhi programs for the academic session 2024-25. BHU, a renowned central university, offers Ph.D. programs across multiple disciplines, fostering research excellence in various streams of arts, science, social sciences, medicine, agriculture, and more.
BHU PhD 2025 Programs
Ph.D. admissions are available under the following major faculties:
- Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
Disciplines include History, Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology, and more. - Science and Technology
Includes Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, and Computer Science. - Agricultural Sciences
Specialized disciplines like Agronomy, Horticulture, and Agricultural Economics. - Medical Sciences
Includes Ayurveda, Modern Medicine, and Dental Sciences. - Management Studies

BHU PhD 2025 Eligibility
- Academic Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% marks (relaxation for reserved categories as per Government norms).
- Entrance Requirements:
- RET-Exempted Mode: Applicants with JRF (UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT) or equivalent qualifications.
- RET Mode: Candidates without JRF but qualified in national exams like UGC-NET or those appearing for BHU’s Research Entrance Test (RET).
- Special Criteria: Additional eligibility for disciplines like Technology, AI, Ayurveda, and Medicine is outlined in the brochure.
Admission Process
- RET-Exempted Mode:
- Direct admission based on the interview.
- Candidates with JRF or similar national fellowships are prioritized.
- RET Mode:
- Candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the Research Entrance Test (RET) and interviews.

Reservations and Relaxations
Reservations are provided as per Government of India rules for:
- Scheduled Castes (15%)
- Scheduled Tribes (7.5%)
- Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (27%)
- Economically Weaker Sections (10%)
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (5%)
Relaxation in minimum eligibility marks (5%) is applicable for SC/ST/PwBD/OBC candidates.
