About the Program:
Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE), Pune, invites applications for its Ph.D. Program for the academic session 2025. Established in 1930 and recognized as a Deemed to be University, GIPE is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious institutes in economics research and education. The program offers specialization in Economics, Agricultural Economics, and Population Studies, fostering research that addresses current socio-economic challenges.
Eligibility:
- Educational Qualification:
- A Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Population Studies with at least 55% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwD candidates).
- Candidates with a 4-year Bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 75% marks (5% relaxation as above).
- Additional Requirements:
- Candidates must have qualified UGC-JRF or hold a valid UGC-NET score.
- Foreign candidates must have an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Admission Process:
- Online Application: Visit www.gipe.ac.in to fill the application form and pay the fee online.
- For JRF Holders: Admission based on personal interviews.
- For Non-JRF Candidates: Admission based on UGC-NET score (70%) and personal interview (30%).
- For Foreign Candidates: Admission solely through personal interviews.
- Research Proposal: Submission of a 2,000-word research proposal outlining objectives, methodology, and relevance to socio-economic issues.

Fees Structure:
- For Indian Students (Domiciled in Maharashtra):
- SC/ST/VJNT/DTNT: ₹28,450 per year
- Open/OBC: ₹37,700 per year
- For Indian & SAARC Students (Non-Maharashtra Domicile): ₹37,700 per year
- For International Students:
- First-time Admission in India: $1,815 (approx. ₹1,52,460) per year
- After Qualifying from Indian University: $550 (approx. ₹46,200) per year
