CENTRE FOR NANO AND SOFT MATTER SCIENCES (CeNS)
Ph.D. Programme – January 2025 Session
Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the Ph.D. programme at CeNS, affiliated with the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR). The program focuses on advanced research in nano and soft matter sciences.
Research Areas
- Energy & Environment: Photodetectors, Photovoltaics, Energy storage devices, Supercapacitors, Hydrogen Energy, Sensors, Smart windows and displays, Electrochemical energy conversion, Piezoelectric energy generation, and more.
- Nanomaterials: Solution-based processes, Hybrid spin valve devices, Low-cost instrumentation, Organic nanomaterials, Supramolecular polymers, Inorganic nanomaterials, and composites.
- Metamaterials: Acoustic and optical metamaterials, Radiative cooling.
- Soft Materials/Liquid Crystals: Phase transitions, Peptides, Organo- and hydrogels.
- Surfaces/Interfaces: Micro- and nano-structured surfaces, Structural colors, Plasmonics, Wettability.
Eligibility
- Educational Qualifications: M.Sc./M.Tech. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Nano Science, or allied subjects with at least 60% marks (General) or 55% marks (SC/ST).
- Entrance Qualification: Qualified in one of the national-level entrance tests (CSIR-UGC NET-JRF, GATE, JEST) or an INSPIRE fellowship.
- Desired Specialization: Condensed Matter Physics, Electronics, Materials Science, Organic/Inorganic/Physical/General Chemistry.
Selection Procedure
- Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in national entrance tests and academic records.
- Final selection will be based on an interview conducted at CeNS during the first week of March 2025.
Facilities
- Fellowship: As per DST norms.
- Hostel: Campus hostel facilities are available.
- Travel Grants: Financial assistance of up to ₹1,50,000 during the five-year Ph.D. programme for participation in national and international events.
- Medical Facilities: A campus clinic with a medical practitioner is available, along with referrals to empanelled hospitals for specialized care.
